Roberto J. Aguado has received the EPNOE Junior Award in recognition of his scientific career, particularly for his contribution to research in the polysaccharide field.
The European Polysaccharide Network Of Excellence (EPNOE) is a non-profit association aimed to promote research, development, and teaching efforts in polysaccharide science, circular economy and sustainable practices. It was established in 2007 with support from the European Commission.
The University of Girona (Universitat de Girona, UdG) has been a member of EPNOE since 2021 through the active participation of LEPAMAP-PRODIS members, alongside universities, research centers, and companies from across Europe, including some associated institutions in non-EU countries such as Canada, the United States, and Brazil.
Every two years, the association organizes the EPNOE Junior Scientist Meeting, a conference that includes the announcement of the EPNOE Junior Award to the junior researcher with the allegedly most outstanding contribution to the field of polysaccharides (cellulose, starch, chitin, alginate, etc.). This year, the meeting has taken place in the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, also known as BOKU (Vienna, 3-6 September 2024). The award has been given to Professor Roberto J. Aguado, member of the LEPAMAP-PRODIS Research Group.

In addition to delivering a message of thanks to EPNOE, the LEPAMAP-PRODIS group, and the University of Girona, Roberto Juan Aguado delivered a talk titled The Sevenfold Role of Cellulose (and Its Derivatives) in Amplified Packaging Systems. Aguado selected topics related to the use of cellulose and cellulose derivatives for food packaging, which constitutes a significant part of his contribution to the science and technology of polysaccharides.
