Laboratory of sustainable materials and product design
The LEPAMAP-PRODIS research group is a multidisciplinary team from the University of Girona formed by engineers and scientists that share a concern with the sustainability of everyday materials, especially polymers, and their production processes.
Location
The LEPAMAP-PRODIS group has its research facilities in the historically rich city of Girona, and they comprise both the Polytechnic School and the Research & Innovation Park.
The team
Led by Marc Delgado-Aguilar, LEPAMAP-PRODIS is a diverse group of researchers, professors, and graduate students with a focus on the development of fully or partly biobased materials. Besides a techno-scientific background, they embrace the values of academic integrity: trust, honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage.
Sustainable papermaking
Alternatives to hazardous chemicals for pulping and bleaching, bio-based coating suspensions, paper recycling, and valorization of agricultural waste.
Biocomposite materials
Composites for films, automotive parts and even biomedical applications, with annual plants or crop residues as reinforcement fibers, and priorizing bio-based matrices.
Bio-based nanomaterials
Nanocelluloses for multifunctional applications, encompassing chemical, enzymatic and mechanical treatments in their production process.
Product design & modelling
Planning, prototyping, techno-economic and life cycle assessment, with a focus on a circular economy and inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals.
