Bringing Nanocellulose-Stabilized Multiphasic Systems to International Events

13 jul 2026

A delegation from the LEPAMAP-PRODIS group, besides serving as co-organizers, delivered insightful talks on emulsions, suspensions, and interfacial phenomena at CIADICYP2026.

CIADICYP 2026, hosted by Technische Universität Graz and co-organized by Universitat de Girona, set a very high standard for scientific meetings. Over four days, the conference combined excellent facilities, a welcoming atmosphere, high-quality presentations, lively poster sessions, and many valuable conversations.

Researchers, students, and industry representatives shared work related to cellulose, papermaking, emulsions, suspensions, and interfacial phenomena. Contributions from companies such as Lenzing Group and BASF also provided valuable industrial perspectives and helped connect fundamental research with practical applications.

A delegation from the LEPAMAP-PRODIS group participated both as co-organizers and speakers. While also learning from many colleagues working across the American and European scientific communities, we presented certain talks and scientific posters, mainly related to nanocellulose-stabilized multiphasic systems. To begin with, on Wednesday 8th of July, Gabriela A. Bastida brought in Bio-based multilayer packaging: Active and barrier functions for food packaging. Then, Roberto J. Aguado delivered a communication on the interfacial assemblement of charged polymers on cellulose, entitled Molecular dynamics of cationic polyelectrolytes in the wet end of the papermaking process. In the same session, Ronald Marquez presented Predictive modeling heuristics for Pickering emulsions stabilized by colloidal lignin. These contributions are closely related to the NEST project, granted to Universitat de Girona by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Special thanks to Stefan Spirk, Marc Delgado-Aguilar, and all the students and PhD candidates whose dedication made the event possible. The quality of the science was matched by the warmth, energy, and commitment of the people involved.

CIADICYP 2026 was a memorable reminder that strong scientific communities are built not only through knowledge, but also through collaboration, generosity, and shared enthusiasm.
